Colorado sees slight uptick in year-end impaired driving arrests

Despite a year-long initiative to curb impaired driving in the state, more Colorado drivers were arrested for impaired driving this past new year weekend than in 2016.

According to the Colorado Department of Transportation, 366 people in the state were arrested for impaired driving during the five-day period spanning New Year’s Eve weekend. Twenty-nine of those arrests were made in Colorado Springs.

That’s up slightly from 2016, which saw 279 people in the state arrested across the same time. Twenty-three of those arrests were in the Springs. However, it’s still fewer arrests than were made in 2015, when 396 people in the state were arrested for impaired driving.

When breaking down the statistics and looking at just the arrests that occurred on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1, the numbers are a bit more evenly matched. There were 191 arrests in 2017, 180 in 2016 and 195 in 2015.
