Dry with warmer temperatures – 01/03/17
Today: We’ll stick with our extremely dry conditions across southern Colorado! There will be low dewpoint temperatures once again. This indicates that we’re bone dry – make sure to hydrate! Today’s temperatures will be warmer compared to what we had yesterday. This is because a ridge of high pressure (which is usually associated with quiet weather) is building over the Great Basin and Desert Southwest. Highs will range in the 40s and 50s.
Tonight: A small area of low pressure will swing through the state overnight. This will allow for some mixing of the air. Between that and a mix of clouds (somewhat moderating the cooling we might get), lows might not be as cold as what we’ve had recently. Still, bundle up! Temperatures drop to the teens and 20s.
Extended: High pressure will dominate and shift east Thursday and Friday. This will give way to even warmer temperatures. We’ll reach the 50s for many spots during that time! Now Saturday and Sunday, an incoming low pressure system will move through the Centennial State. This will be sparking some rain and snow along the western slope and Continental Divide on Saturday. This may possibly spread to the lower elevations by early Sunday morning. However, it doesn’t look like we’ll see much in the way of impacts in the lower terrain from this storm system.
