Suspects arrested after crashing stolen Jeep in Colorado Springs apartment complex

A man and a woman were arrested in Colorado Springs on Monday morning after they were spotted in a stolen Jeep by the owner.

The victim called Colorado Springs police at 11:30 a.m. on Monday saying he had seen the couple in his Jeep that he had reported stolen to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office about an hour earlier.

The victim followed his vehicle eastbound onto E. Fountain Boulevard, where he saw an officer conducting a traffic stop. The victim stopped and told the officer about his vehicle.

The officer caught up to the Jeep and followed it into the Fountain Springs Grove Apartments, where it hit a parked vehicle. The two suspects then jumped out and ran.

Officers were able to chase them down within the complex.

Jonathan Akes, 25, and Michelle Liali, 35, were arrested and are facing charges of motor vehicle theft.
