Colorado police warned of Douglas County shooter

Douglas County shooter has been identified as 37-year-old Matthew Riehl. He’s seen in a YouTube video claiming the current Sheriff, Tony Spurlock is a “clown” and plans to run against him.

This is just one of several videos he posted on his page reflecting law enforcement in Colorado. Another series of videos show Riehl talking over body-cam footage from a Lone Tree police officer when Riehl was pulled over for speeding. In the videos, he calls the officer a “Nazi” and a “liar.” His profile says he has uploaded 143 videos to this page but only some are available to the public.

Riehl graduated from the University of Wyoming Law School in 2010 and went on to practice law in Rawlins, Wyo., but in the last six weeks, the Denver Post reported Wyoming law enforcement warned Colorado officers that he might be a danger. This came after Riehl was being investigated for social media posts aimed at faculty at the University.

Our news partners at Denver7 have also reported Riehl service in the Army and Wyoming’s National Guard. He was deployed to Iraq in 2009 and honorably discharged in 2012.

The majority of his videos that remain on YouTube are video game reviews and his various opinions on large scale companies like Google and Dodge.

Riehl is responsible for killing one Douglas County deputy, injuring four others, and wounding two civilians.
