Hundreds in El Paso County drop off Christmas trees for Recycling

With the end of the Holiday season approaching, one organization is making it easy for everyone to get rid of their Christmas trees while helping youth sports and the environment.

For the last 15 years Colorado Springs Youth Sports has held the annual “TreeCycle” event where for five dollars, residents can drop off their Christmas trees to be recycled into mulch.

The executive director of the youth sports Steve Czarnecki says last year more than 4,000 trees were collected. “It’s a great way to get rid of your trees,” Czarnecki says, “keep it out of the landfill which is great.”

On Saturday six locations in El Paso County were open with people driving up with trees tied to the roof. Volunteers would then untie the trees and place them in a gated area.

All the money raised will be donated to youth sports and other local non-profits like Boy Scouts.

If you wish to drop off your tree you still have New Year’s Eve from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and January 6th and 7th. For the full list of locations click here.
