More details released in deadly shooting at Colorado Springs Kmart
In an affidavit released on Friday, we learned more about what led up to the fatal shooting of Cory Forbush in Colorado Springs on Wednesday night.
Cory’s brother was with Cory when he was fatally shot in the Kmart parking lot off N. Nevada.
The brother told Colorado Springs police that they were headed to McDonald’s when Cory made an unexpected stop at around 6 p.m. They pulled into the Kmart parking lot and Cory was on his phone. Then a dark-colored vehicle with a man and a woman inside pulled up beside them.
According to the brother, Cory then picked up a gun and got out of the truck. The brother then saw shots fired from the other vehicle. As the suspect vehicle was speeding away, Cory stumbled over to the passenger side of the truck and collapsed.
Cory was rushed to Penrose Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
During the first interview with the brother, he denied knowing who the two were in the other vehicle. But after interviewing his uncle, they decided to bring the brother back in for questioning. Then, he was able to positively identify the suspect as Michael Parkhurst and claimed the other person in the vehicle with him was his wife.
Investigators checked Cory’s phone and did see communication between him and Parkhurst. What was said in the conversation was not detailed in the affidavit.
The Colorado Springs Police Department is searching for Parkhurst. If you have information, call 444-7000.
