Breezy with high fire danger today – 12/30/17

TODAY: We will start the morning off with some patchy freezing fog, especially through the Arkansas River Valley. Skies will be partly cloudy this afternoon and winds will gust to around 40 today, mainly across the high country and the foothills. This means a wind alert level 1 is in place. Dry conditions are allowing for high fire danger today along and west of I-25. This is where you will find Red Flag Warnings through this evening.

TONIGHT: Shallow cold air will make its way west tonight and will settle next to the mountains. Low clouds, fog and some light snow will develop as a result.

EXTENDED: We will have a hard time getting rid of that cold air for Sunday afternoon due to easterly winds. Look for continued chances for flurries through the afternoon with highs in the 20s. Highs should be a bit warmer in the high country during the daytime. Bundle up for those New Years Eve celebrations! Lows plummet into the single digits as arctic air surges south. New years day looks dry with highs rebounding to the 20s and 30s.
