Colorado woman hopes to ban dog collars that choke, prong or shock
A woman in Boulder, Colo. is pushing for a ban on dog collars that choke, prong, or shock.
Dog trainer Mary Angilly is hoping to get the proposal on the 2018 ballot, according to Boulder Daily Camera.
What would be banned includes:
Choke Collars: a chain for controlling a dog that is put around the dog’s neck and that tightens when the end of the chain is pulled Prong Collars: generally made of metal chain material and has blunt ends which tighten around a dog’s neck when the handler pulls or jerks back on the leash. Shock Collars: delivers electrical shocks of varying intensity and duration to the neck of a dog
“I don’t want residents in Boulder to feel alienated or badly if they’re using them,” Angilly told the Daily Camera. “This is about educating people and showing them there are other ways.”
If Angilly gets it on the ballot and it passes, Boulder would be the first city in the U.S. to have such a ban.
