4 firefighters injured in crash with semi in Colorado

A group of firefighters was taken to the hospital on Wednesday morning after a semi-truck in Weld County, Colo. collided with their fire engine.

The Southeast Weld Fire Protection District Chief Tom Breach told our partners at Denver7 that four people out of his department were hurt in the crash on I-76 near Wiggins, Colo. and are expected to be okay.

“We would like to remind everyone to please give emergency vehicles space when they are responding with lights and sirens. This is not just for your safety but for ours as well. The crew that was on this engine are doing well,” Southeast Weld Fire Protection posted to Facebook.

He said their fire truck was trying to turn around on the interstate to respond to a call when the semi crashed into them. The fire engine’s lights and sirens were active at the time of the accident.

One had broken bones and needed stitches. Another also needed stitches. The other two were taken to the hospital as a precaution.

The driver of the semi walked away uninjured. It is unknown whether he will be charged.
