2 Fort Carson brigades to be deployed to Afghanistan

Two brigades with the 4th Infantry Division stationed at Fort Carson will be deployed to Afghanistan in 2018.

The announcement came from the Department of the Army Thursday, which says the 2nd Infantry Brigade and the 1st Stryker Brigade will relieve forces in the country as part of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel.

The 1st Stryker Brigade will replace the 4th Brigade Combat Team of the 25th Infantry Division, and the 2nd Infantry Brigade will replace the 1st Infantry Brigade Combat Team of the 82nd Airborne Division.

“Our War Horse soldiers are trained, ready, and are honored that the Army has selected our unit for the deployment.” said Col. David Zinn, commander of the 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team.

“We couldn’t do this without our families and owe special thanks for their willingness to stand by our most precious resource – The American Soldier,” said Col. Monte L. Rone, commander of the 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team.

The exact dates for the deployments were not released.
