Teller County is gearing up for winter weather
People in Teller County are gearing up for the snow headed their way Thursday.
In the Teller County Transportation barn, plows have been checked for maintenance and filled with a salt-sand mixture in preparation for the storm.
Operations supervisor for Teller County Transportation, Brad Shaw, said despite the late arrival of the snow, his crews have still been busy.
“We’ve been grating gravel roads still,” Shaw said.
But now, his crews are ready to face the winter weather.
“Whenever it starts we’ll bring the crew in,” Shaw said. “We’re happy to see the snow.”
Teller County will have as many as 18 trucks on the road at one time to keep things clear.
“We’re 24-hour coverage,” Shaw said. “It takes a dedicated crew to maintain these roads. They come in at all hours of the day leaving their families. If it snows on Christmas they’re going to be here for the safety of the public.”
Looking around Woodland Park, decorations for the holidays are hung with care, but snow hasn’t made the appearance residents have wanted.

“It seems like we’ve just been waiting and waiting for it,” Rick Dettling said.
Dettling is finishing up getting the cars fueled up in anticipation of the storm.
“We’re ready to go, if there are any emergencies in my four-wheel-drive truck here, we’ve got the sleeping bag in the back, we’ve got some food, some survival kids right back there so we’re all ready for it,” Dettling said.
Teri Miller also ready to have a good old-fashioned snow day with her kids.
“I’m excited for the snow, we need to have a white Christmas,” Miller said. “Always nervous for the roads you know, icy roads are a bummer.”
