Rock climber dies after fall in Banks Hiking Area in Fremont County

Fremont County Deputies responded to the Banks Hiking area on Saturday afternoon for reports that a rock climber had fallen about 60 feet and was not breathing.

Crews responded to Red Canyon Road near mile marker 10 in Canon City near the climbing area named “The Piggy Bank.”

Lifesaving measures were taken but the rock climber was pronounced dead at the scene.

The name, age, and gender of the climber are not being released at this time pending notification to next of kin.

Agencies that assisted in the call were FreCom Dispatch, Fremont County Sheriff’s Office, BLM, Fremont Search and Rescue, Fremont County Incident Management team, Canon City Fire Department, American Medical Response (AMR), Air Ambulance, and the Fremont County Coroner.
