Marty’s Saturday Morning Forecast / Colder Air Is On The Way! / 12/16/17

Today: Partly cloudy & warming pretty quickly this morning, then breezy and turning colder from north to south this afternoon. High temperatures should reach the upper 40s to middle 50s for the plains, mainly 40s over the mountains, but again, the air will cool as the afternoon progresses. During the afternoon wind speeds of 10 to 20 mph should become pretty common, and occasionally the wind could gust to around 25 mph from the northeast.

Tonight: Turning colder this evening. Increasing clouds overnight with areas of low cloud cover and patchy fog and/or freezing fog by morning. Chilly by morning with low temperatures in the teens and 20s.

Extended: Sunday will be colder for many areas. During the morning hours some areas of freezing fog, freezing drizzle or some flurries may exist. While we do not expect precipitation to be heavy anywhere on Sunday, we always need to be wary of icing with any freezing drizzle that may develop. Precipitation will end by afternoon and the clouds should begin to break up. Clearing should occur over the higher terrain first, and over the mountains the air may actually warm into the 40s. Lower elevations of El Paso and northern Pueblo and eastern Fremont counties will probably be the slowest to clear, and as a result probably the coldest areas on Sunday with much of the day spent in the 20s and 30s. Warmer Monday through Wednesday, then much colder area wide with a chance for snow on Thursday. Temperatures Friday morning will probably be in the single digits above and below zero.
