Man dies in hospital after being ‘tased’ by Pueblo police

Pueblo police are investigating how a man died Sunday afternoon after being “tased” following erratic behavior on Interstate 25.

That’s according to a news release issued by the department late Sunday night, which says police officers went to I-25 near Eagle Ridge Blvd. and found the man walking back and forth across all lanes of the Interstate around 3:25 p.m.

According to our partners at the Pueblo Chieftain, the man was identified Monday as 26-year-old Emanuel Miera. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.

Police officers tried to talk to Miera, but he didn’t stop, and kept going in and out of traffic. They later were able to get him to exit the Interstate.

Pueblo police say that when officers tried to approach Miera, he started a struggle. The officers used a stun gun on him, but he kept resisting. Eventually, he was handcuffed.

Miera was taken to Parkview hospital, but he later died. At this point it’s not known if the use of the stun gun contributed to his death.

The Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation, according to Pueblo police, and the officers involved have been placed on administrative leave while pending its outcome.
