Humane Society rescues wounded dog from Colorado Springs manhole
A 10-year-old dog named Blizzard has a new lease — or leash — on life after being rescued from a Colorado Springs manhole.
The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region posted on Facebook about the call they received this week. Blizzard had fallen down the open manhole, and Colorado Springs Fire Department crews were called to help.
But Blizzard was suffering an injury: he had been pierced by a piece of pipe and needed medical assistance to be rescued safely.
That’s when animal law enforcement officers responded to the scene with a veterinarian and vet tech.
The veterinarian, Dr. Rainey, climbed down into the manhole and spent about 20 minutes comforting Blizzard and giving him pain medication. She then pulled Blizzard from the pipe safely and stabilized him with IV fluids and warming therapy.
Blizzard spent a few nights in the animal emergency room, according to the Humane Society, but he’s expected to be released to his family Thursday.
