Next Cold Front Arrives Wednesday – 12/5/17

TONIGHT: Lows will still be bitter cold tonight, so you’ll need that extra blanket on the bed! We will dip into the teens in most locations with single digits in the high country.

WEDNESDAY: Our next cold front will drag upward what little moisture we have in our atmosphere and attempt to drop some light snow over the mountain peaks during the afternoon and evening. A few flurries could make it as far down as Woodland Park, the Palmer Divide, and eventually the Raton Mesa after dark. The main impact from this front will be the cold wind during the evening and overnight hours as temperatures topping out in the 30s and 40s drop back into the teens by Thursday morning. Wind chills during the day will be in the 20s and 30s, but single digits and teens await you at the bus stop on Thursday.

EXTENDED: If you think the wind stings on Wednesday (and it will… a little bit), then you definitely won’t like the weather on Thursday. Wind gusts up near 30mph means borderline level 1 wind gusts with highs only in the 30s to low 40s and wind chills in the teens! The breeze will have at least one positive side-effect… as fast as the arctic air blows in, it’ll head southeast just as quickly. Again, a few snow showers are possible during the day and night around the mountain peaks with flurries possible across lower elevations, but it looks simply too dry for anything to stick below 12,000ft. The windiest weather of the week will be on Friday as gusts breach level 1 thresholds and peak in the 40-45mph range across the Front Range. Ironically, the mountain cities will have less wind than the rest of us, but it’ll be chillier as highs only reach the 40s and low 50s while 50s and 60s grace the rest of us with their presence. The weekend brings highs in the 50s and 60s, perfect weather for getting outside!
