ONLY ON 13: Ex-husband of Colorado Springs murder suspect speaks

The ex-husband of a Colorado Springs murder suspect believes she was capable of killing.

That’s what Greg Calhoon, ex-husband of Jennifer Calhoon said.

Calhoon confessed to stabbing and killing her boyfriend, Charles Lucas on Willamette Ave. in Colorado Springs last week.

In an exclusive interview with KRDO NewsChannel 13, Greg Calhoon said Jennifer Calhoon stayed at Cedar Springs Hospital multiple times and the staff there diagnosed her with schizophrenia.

“All the things that we had to go through, now the worse thing of all, somebody loses their life over it,” Greg Calhoon said.

Greg Calhoon said he and Jennifer got married in 1999 and had a son together, but things started to go downhill in 2005 when she tried to kill herself.

Following that, more drama came to the family. Greg said Jennifer went after both him and his daughter with a knife, and ran off with their son in the middle of the night and disappeared for days.

By the time 2012 came around, court records prove they filed for divorce.

“She’s never really totally been out of the picture. It’s always keeping us on our toes and worried,” Greg Calhoon said. “There was a number of times that we called police for her calling and harassing and making threats, but they never took it seriously.”

Greg Calhoon tried to get a restraining order to protect himself and the kids, but a judge denied that request.

“Just didn’t feel like she posed an immediate threat I guess,” Greg Calhoon said.

Fast forward to the present, Jennifer is facing first-degree murder charges for stabbing Charles Lucas.

According to the arrest affidavit, Jennifer Calhoon told police that she “wasn’t going to stop stabbing him until Chuck was dead.”

“I thought she was capable. I’ve seen her temper,” Greg Calhoon said. “Now somebody needlessly died because they didn’t listen.”

Jennifer Calhoon is being held on a no-bond warrant and is set to appear in court on Thursday.
