Number of residents leaving Colorado hits record high

New figures from the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey is showing that many Coloradans have had enough.

Our partners at Denver7 report that the state of Colorado saw its first decline this decade in the number of people arriving from other states, while those leaving Colorado has hit a record high.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 193,000 Coloradans moved away last year, which is 10,000 more than in 2015. During that time, 223,000 moved to Colorado. That is a 4,000 decrease from the year before.

Apparently, people are fed up with rising house prices, jobs with a low-income salary, and increased traffic issues.

In November of 2017, KRDO NewsChannel 13 decided to dig deeper into the house marketing and investigate how Colorado had joined the top ranking states as being one of the least affordable places to live.

Houses in Colorado Springs were selling for an average of $276,000 and in Denver $485,000.

“It’s obviously a lot less affordable than it used to be,” Colorado Association of Realtors spokesperson, Kelly Moye said. “Eventually if those numbers keep going up it’s going to price people out of this market and they will have to go somewhere else.”

Home prices are closely tied to how well the stock market is doing. Currently, it’s in the second-longest bull market in history, and eventually, it will have to go back down, and with it, home prices can as well.
