Snowboarder hits tree and dies at Monarch

A snowboarder died after hitting a tree at Monarch Ski Area Saturday.

Emergency crews performed CPR on the victim, but he died at the scene.

According to the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office, witnesses say the victim was snowboarding and collided with a tree. He was wearing a helmet.

The victim’s identity isn’t being released until family members are notified.
