UPDATE: snowy weather hinders search for missing hiker in Chaffee County

Weather is hindering the search for a missing hiker in Chaffee County. According to sheriff’s office, Shuei Pako, from Silverthorne never returned from a hike on Saturday.

The person that reported Pako missing said the hiker summited Mount Missouri, a 14,000 foot peak in northern Chaffee County on Saturday morning. Pako was suppose to return to Silverthorne on Saturday afternoon, but did not arrive as planned.

Chaffee County Sheriff’s deputies got the call early on Sunday morning, and responded to the trailhead. Crews located Pako’s vehicle, and search and rescue crews were deployed.

Right now, the Sheriff’s Office says they are not looking for any more volunteers because the snowy weather could put more lives at risk.

Chaffee County Search and Rescue North and South, Summit Search and Rescue, Lake County Search and Rescue, as well as air support from Flight for Life, Reach Air Ambulance and the Air Nationals Guard, H.A.T.C., based out of Eagle County. Over 45 ground searchers participated on Sunday, as well as three helicopters.
