State of the Wing address held for 21st Space Wing

Local leaders and commanders from Peterson Air Force Base gathered Wednesday for the annual State of the Wing address.

“The state of the wing is strong,” 21st Space Wing and installation commander Col. Todd Moore said.

Moore began with positive words as he addressed a roomful of civilian and wing leaders.

“I desire to get ourselves to being intellectual leaders in the space domain,” Moore said.

Focusing on the wing’s missions of missile detection and defense for the nation, space awareness, and space control, Moore said airmen need to grow in a “space mindset” and in creativity to defeat adversaries.

“I want to get them thinking critically, I want to get them side by side solving those problems and I’m demanding that my leadership embrace those things,” Moore said.

But Moore also took time to recognize the wing’s unique connection to the Pikes Peak Region.

“It is an incredibly special partnership that we have with Colorado Springs,” Moore said.

Moore also knows perflorinated compounds tainting water in Security-Widefield and Fountain has tainted relationships with the community.

“Getting to the bottom of it and getting answers from the headquarters and getting answers from the staff is a high priority for us. It takes time for the staff to do that, and I know it is not happening fast enough,” Moore said.

Moore also mentioned that with the tenuous state of the world, he’s aimed at getting his airmen prepared to tackle whatever could come in the future.
