UPDATE: Bicyclist killed after crash involving CSPD officer

Colorado Springs police now say a 30-year-old man involved in a bike crash last week has died.

On the night of September 24, Nicholas Watson, of Colorado Springs collided with an off-duty police officer at the intersection of Dublin and Academy.

Investigators have identified Sergeant Larry Morgan, a 31-year veteran of the police force, as the driver. Investigators say Watson was trying to cross the intersection when he was hit. He was taken to the hospital with critical injuries and died on September 29.

CSPD’s Major Accident Unit conducted an investigation into the crash, and determined that Sergeant Morgan was not speeding. Witnesses also saw Watson trying to cross the street during a green light.

Watson marks the third bicyclist to be killed this year in Colorado Springs. It’s also the 30th traffic-related fatality in Colorado Springs this year. There were 21 traffic-related deaths at this time last year.
