Deadly crash closes Powers Boulevard in Colorado Springs

One person has been killed in a traffic accident on Powers Boulevard.

It happened early Thursday morning near Aeroplaza Drive.

Colorado Springs police say it was a single-car crash.

Two people were inside the car. The driver was taken to the hospital and is facing charges, the passenger died.

The accident has Powers Boulevard closed southbound from Airport Road and northbound from E. Fountain Boulevard. The stretch of road is expected to be closed until at least 4 p.m.

Police say speed and drugs are possible factors in the crash.

As of 5:45 p.m., all lanes at Powers and Aeroplaza are now open.
