New police chief named in Pueblo

Now Chief Troy Davenport will take on the role of police chief in Pueblo.

Pueblo City Manager Sam Azad made the announcement Monday during the city council’s work session.

Davenport has served as the acting chief of police since former Chief Luis Velez retired in July, and served as a deputy chief for several years.

Total Davenport has been with Pueblo police for 24 years and is a Pueblo native.

Davenport said he’s most excited to get working with the community, and getting officers excited to do the same.

“Community policing is important, you know if we have 200 police officers but we have 110 citizens working in concert with us you know the sky is the limit,” Davenport said.

Davenport will officially take over the position on September 1.
