Judge: Robert Dear still not competent to stand trial in Planned Parenthood shooting case

A competency hearing was held Thursday for accused Planned Parenthood shooter, Robert Dear.

Dear continued to make outbursts in court, referencing Judgment Day saying, “Jesus said there would be signs in the sun, the moon and the stars. That’s what the Eclipse was.”

A judge announced Dear is still not competent to stand trial. His next court date is set for November 21st at 1:30 p.m.

A Pueblo judge has approved a request for involuntary medication in an effort to restore Dear to competency.

“So it’s not in a total hole, a doctor down there felt it was important that he try medications and we will see what happens there,” District Attorney Dan May said.

Psychologists have testified during prior hearings that Dear suffers from a delusion disorder.

Dear is charged with 179 counts in connection to the November 27, 2015 shooting at a Planned Parenthood in Colorado Springs.

Garrett Swasey, Jennifer Markovsky, and Ke’Arre Stewart were killed in the shooting. Nine others were hurt.
