Prosecutors charge man in northern Colorado slaying

Prosecutors have charged a suspect accused of killing a man in northern Colorado and leaving the body in a locked, burning garage.

The Greeley Tribune reports 22-year-old Aaron Hoult is charged with first-degree murder and arson after Greeley firefighters called to the Aug. 16 fire found the body.

Hoult told police he was at the garage to retrieve a bike pump when he saw an unknown man stabbing the victim, whose name has not been released.

According to an arrest affidavit, Hoult says he slipped and fell on the victim’s body, causing him to get blood on his clothes. Hoult also told officers he was scared, so he grabbed the keys to the garage and locked it before fleeing.

Booking documents do not indicate if Hoult has hired an attorney.
