District 38 launches new app, online school

Students at District 38 headed back to class, equipped with a brand new app and the option of attending high school online!

About 100 students from both Lewis Palmer High School and Palmer Ridge High School will have the option to apply and enroll in the online high school.

It’s part of the effort to focus on education for the future.

Greg Long is one of the teachers at the online school. He said it will be accommodating to students’ needs.

“W e’re finding that there are a lot of kids who just need different approaches to school. For some of them, the social piece of high school as hard, some they have medical issues, some they are really serious athletes — so there are lots of reasons why they might not physically be in high school but there are still opportunities to learn.”

Students will physically come in anywhere from 1 to 3 times a week to check in, get assistance, get help from a live teacher, depending on the child and their schedule. They will also need to pass certain progress milestones and tests.

Students can enroll with their counselor at their school.

Superintendent Karen Brofft said the other big addition to the district this year is a new app.

The app is for both parent and student use. They’ll be able to check homework assignments, class schedules, grades, and even the lunch menu, right from their fingertips.

It’s another tool that gets student prepared for the future.

“We want them to be successful when they’re contributing members of their communities,” Superintendent Brofft said. “So we’re really thinking about the kinds of careers they’re going to be holding when they’re in their 30’s and making sure we’re providing programs and education that allow them to meet those requirements for those new careers that don’t even exist yet.”

The app is now live and ready to use.
