Mother dies trying to rescue her son from a creek in Golden

A woman died Sunday when she tried to save her son from Clear Creek in Golden.

According to KMGH, authorities believe the mother and son were tubing when the 11-year-old boy capsized and went into the water.

The mother, identified as 31-year-old Amber Raye Presson, went into the rushing waters to rescue him but both were swept downstream. The boy was able to make it out of the water but Presson wasn’t.

The Golden Police Department thinks she may have hit her head on a rock and been knocked out.

Her son was not injured and is now in the custody of relatives.
