Colorado Classic: Preparation for big day

It’s something racers, spectators and organizers look forward to every year. But this year’s Colorado Classic started with some drama in the form of rain.

“There is only one thing faster than the change of the weather here in Colorado and that’s the racers that will be competing today,” said race director Jim Birrel.

With competitors from all over the world, there’s a lot of mental preparation that foes into racing the Colorado Classic.

“I’m sure there were some restless night for some of the competitors. They rode the course yesterday and some of the local guys have done it several times. They are paying attention to that climb out there at Garden of the Gods and that will play a critical role in today ‘s inaugural stage,” Birrel said.

Businesses like Remax are using the foot traffic to its advantage, holding an open house for those walking past.

And even though there were plenty of road closures, most of the people we spoke to left early enough to to be affected by them.
