Live grenade leads to evacuations in Fremont County
Authorities have removed and secured what was believed to be a live grenade found in a vehicle in downtown Florence.
The device was discovered Friday evening during a narcotics search after a traffic stop on S Petroleum Ave.
The nearby Elk’s Lodge was evacuated, and several surrounding roads were closed while the bomb squad investigated.
Hours later, the Pueblo County bomb squad transported the grenade to a secure location for disposal.
According to Florence Police Chief Michael De Laurentis, police detectives and Fremont County deputies then went to the area where the young man in the car located the grenade and search for more, but didn’t find any.
No word yet on whether the driver of the vehicle will face any charges for possessing the device.
