NEW INFORMATION: Officer-involved shooting ruled to be “justified”

A shooting involving a Colorado Springs police officer in January of 2017 has been justified.

The Fourth Judicial District Attorney’s Office released the decision Thursday, saying there will be no charges against Sgt. Robert Wolf.

The shooting happened on January 5th when CSPD tactical officers were trying to arrest a juvenile suspect wanted on outstanding warrants.

According to the District Attorney’s office, the juvenile came down the stairs with a gun in his left hand as officers were on scene waiting for a search warrant for an apartment.

Sgt. Robert Wolf yelled at the juvenile to drop the gun. According to the investigation, the juvenile didn’t listen and started to bend his arm. Fearing that the juvenile was raising the gun to fire at officers, Sgt. Wolf shot the juvenile and he was taken into custody.

The juvenile recovered from his injuries and was charged with several offenses. His name is not being released because of his age.

A statement from the District Attorney’s Office reads in part: “The facts and evidence from this particular investigation demonstrate that Sgt. Robert Wolf acted reasonably and was justified in defending others from the imminent use of deadly physical force by the juvenile and further used reasonable force to effect the arrest of the juvenile. Because the officer’s actions were justified under Colorado law, no criminal charges will be pursued.”
