Colorado Springs man “walks 500 miles” to surprise fiancee with engagement

A Colorado Springs man took the phrase “going the distance to a whole new level, when he traveled from Colorado Springs to Utah to surprise his fiancee.

“I always felt that when I met the girl that I was supposed to be with I would know,” Michael Baker explained of his wife-to-be, Tracie Wyson.

Their love story started years ago, just as friends.

“We met when I was 13 on a boating trip with my aunt,” explained Wyson.

Over the years, they fell out of touch. However, their relationship was rekindled about a month ago.

“We started talking to each other then we started Skyping because she lives in St. George,” Baker explained.

As they learned more about each other, they fell in love. Baker knew he needed to make a big gesture, so naturally, he put together a video for her to watch while at dinner with her family to ask for her hand in marriage.

It’s inspired by The Proclaimers’ song “500 Miles,” and features him walking across Colorado to see her. Wyson was completely unaware, though, that he would surprise her live at the end of the video with proposal.

“… And I sobbed the whole time,” Wyson laughed.

Their romance doesn’t end here. In fact, it’s just beginning.

“There’s many things that i hope to make special for the both of us and especially for Tracie — and I look forward to being romantic and spontaneous,” said Baker.

The couple plans to get married on 8/18 of this year.
