Pueblo City-County Health Department holding three-day emergency response event

A full-scale public health emergency response event designed to test the community’s response procedures during a health crisis will begin Thursday across Colorado.

The three-day exercise is designed to test resource distribution, information sharing and the ability to coordinate the responses of multiple response agencies in a hypothetical disease outbreak.

“Response plans will be used to practice emergency processes and help identify training needs, best practices and areas for emergency preparedness improvement,” said Jody Carrillo, the environmental health and emergency preparedness division director at the Pueblo City-County Health Department.

The community is invited to participate in the exercise on Saturday, June 17, at Pueblo West High school on W. Capistrano Avenue. The exercise begins at 8 a.m.

The Pueblo-City County Health Department will need at least 300 volunteers to walk through a mock clinic. Volunteers can register by clicking on this link.

Volunteers will receive an emergency preparedness gift, have a chance to register to win a home preparedness 72-hour kit, can get up close to Flight-For-Life helicopter and other emergency vehicles and meet local emergency responders.
