The Thunderbirds and Blue Angels share the skies

The nation’s premiere flying teams are together for the first time in five years.

The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds and The Blue Angels are sharing the skies in Pensacola, Florida this week.

The squadrons are hoping to learn from each other, as well as swap safety stories.

Both of the teams have had crashes in the last year. After the U.S. Air Force Academy graduation last year, Major Alex Turner crashed his F-16 but walked away unharmed. On the same day, Blue Angels pilot Capt. Jeff Kuss died while training.

“We want to learn from each other because we want to maintain the safest demonstrations that we can possibly do,” Thunderbirds Cmdr. Jason Heard said.

The Thunderbirds have four more shows before their appearance at the Air Force Academy graduation on May 24.
