Pedestrian killed on I-25 in Las Animas County

The Colorado State Patrol responded to a single-vehicle crash Saturday, that resulted in a fatality.

The call came in at 10:30 a.m. on Interstate 25 near milepost 39, in Las Animas County.

A 2001 Chevrolet Suburban driven by Jeremy Cross, 41, of Amarillo Texas was traveling northbound on I-25 when it drifted off the right side of the road. The Chevrolet re-entered the roadway and collided with a male pedestrian, 41, pushing a bike northbound on the shoulder.

The Chevrolet again traveled off the right side of the road, while rotating in a clockwise direction and rolling ¾ times coming to rest on its passenger side facing south in the grass shoulder ditch area.

The Las Animas County Coroner pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene. The pedestrian’s identification is being withheld until next of kin has been notified.

Cross was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Alcohol and drug involvement is not suspected as a contributing factor. The crash remains under investigation.
