Candlelight vigil for teen killed by suspected drunk driver

A candlelight vigil was held Saturday night for Michael Finley, 18, the teen killed Friday night in a crash at Woodmen Road and Golden Sage Road.

Finley was a Senior at Falcon High School and was supposed to graduate in May.

Finley’s father, Roger, posted the following statement on his Facebook page:

“Last night My youngest son, Michael Finley, he is 18 and was supposed to graduate in May, was taken from this earth by a drunk driver on his way home from work. This senseless act took away a caring, loving, sharing, funny, smart person! He was so funny and silly and I will miss his smile! I will MISS EVERYTHING ABOUT MY BOY! I Cannot put into words how I feel right now.”

A memorial is now being built at the accident scene.

Friends of his gathered at the scene to pay tribute to the high school senior.

“Michael was very kind hearted and he always put other people first no matter what. If he was having a hard time, he wouldn’t, you couldn’t tell because he was always putting you first” said Sydney Hudson, a friend of Finley.

“I think the first thing that comes to mind for a lot of people when they think of Michael is just how kind he was all the time,” said Emma Stanley, a friend of Finley.

On Friday just before 7 p.m., Michael Fay, 52, was driving eastbound on Woodmen and was making a left turn onto Golden Sage when he failed to yield and crashed into a sedan being driven by Finley.

Officials say alcohol was a factor in the crash.

Fay is now facing vehicular homicide charges. Fay suffered minor injuries.
