UPDATE: One person displaced after fire near Schriever Air Force Base

7:30 a.m. UPDATE: One person was displaced after a fire broke out at his home and spread to a nearby propane tank south of Schriever Air Force Base early Tuesday morning, said firefighters.

The fire was quickly contained, and fire crews worked to make sure the propane tank cool and properly vented.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

3:30 a.m. UPDATE : The fire burning near Schriever Air Force Base began after a gas line between a home and a propane tank melted, according to a preliminary report from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.

Fire crews are spraying water at the tank in order to keep it cool, which they say will allow them to safely reach the emergency shut-off valve.

The fire is still considered active.

Firefighters are working to contain a fire burning near Book Drive and Hemmingway Road in eastern El Paso County, just south of Schriever Air Force Base.

The fire was called in just before 1 a.m. Tuesday.

Fire crews on scene have not said how large the fire is, or how it began.
