Troopers with the Colorado State Patrol closed South Academy Boulevard on Thursday after a deadly crash. The road has since been reopened.

The crash happened on the overpass above US 85/87 just before 1 a.m.

According to CSP the driver of a Pontiac Montana had broken down and pulled over. As he was standing in the middle lane of the highway he was hit by another driver.

Troopers say Rene Rocha, 22, of Colorado Springs, swerved to the right in an attempt to miss the man, but was unable to avoid the accident. Rocha was wearing his seatbelt and was not hurt.

While the crash is still under investigation Troopers say neither alcohol or speed appear to be factors.
