Flu season hits Colorado, officials expecting more cases

Flu season is here, and the viral disease has Colorado surrounded, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Experts say now is the time to action against it, before it gets worse.

As of last month, more than 300 people went to the hospital in the state for flu-like symptoms.

And the CDC says most states across the country are in what’s called “Widespread Flu Season.” Colorado is one step below that, in “Regional Flu Season.”

However, just because it’s not as bad here as in other states, doesn’t mean it’s not severe.

“That number compared to last year and the year before, we have a much higher rate in the United States right now,” Nikki Price, the Director of Pharmacy Operations for Safeway in Colorado.

That’s why she’s urging people to act now.

“Usually when you go to get a flu shot you think it’s going to hurt, honestly it didn’t hurt at all,” said Bryant Welch, flu shot recipient.

Flu shots are covered under most insurance plans. You may just have to fill out a little paperwork behind.
