New LEGO Life social network just for kids

Beginning today children 13 and under have a new social network to share their creativity.

LEGO has announced LEGO Life, a free social networking app which it says lays the building blocks to prevent bullying.

The app is available on iOS or Android and allows kids to share photos of their LEGO creations, watch animated videos, and participate in building challenges the company creates.

A unique feature of the app, and the one touted as anti-bullying, is a limitation placed on a user’s ability to comment. When commenting on another user’s creation, you can only use LEGO-themed emoji.

When a child signs up for the service, the app will automatically suggest a fun username, then kids are encouraged to make personalized avatars with thousands of combinations.

Parents will then get an email to confirm their child’s account before they can share anything.

Also, as an added level of security, LEGO Life moderators have to approve each post to be sure the content meets with their requirements. Users are not allowed to share pictures featuring any people among other limits.

The app doesn’t restrict how kids can explore content, however. Borrowing from Instagram, users can follow other accounts or search for topics like super heroes or movies.

The app is only available on mobile devices, for the time being. LEGO says it plans to roll out the network on the web soon.
