Large fire burning near Walsenburg

Flames can be seen all the way from Walsenburg as Huerfano County fire responders battle a blaze totaling an estimated 2,000 acres.

As many as 30 fire fighters from local and mutual aid agencies are on scene to fight the fire in these dry winter conditions.

So far, no structures have been damaged and though the fire is burning along the East side of I-25 it has not yet disrupted traffic.

The blaze may have started due to a trailer which tipped over after gusty winds.

Those same winds continue to challenge containment efforts.

According to Stormtracker13’s Abby Acone the area is under red flag warnings for increased fire danger through this evening.
