Tenants voice concerns at Colorado Springs apartment complex
People who live in an apartment complex on the southwest side of Colorado Springs say they’re concerned.
The Broadmoor Park Tower apartments were damaged by fire just before 5 p.m. on Sunday.
Tenants say the fire draws attention to a big problem.
“We had no idea, there were no alarms going off. We just did not know, where do we go, what do we do,” said Miranda Baca.
Baca and her family have lived in the apartments for a few months since moving from Texas.
They were among many evacuated from the apartments when the fire started on the fifth floor of the building.
“There were a couple of guys running down the hallway banging down the doors saying get out! and we were saying — is this a joke?”
Captain Steve Wilch with the Colorado Springs Fire Dept. tells KRDO NewsChannel 13 there were smoke alarms in the building and they did go off.
It’s not clear why Baca didn’t hear the alarms, but she says she wants better communication from building management.
“There’s been no emails, no word from management. I think definitely there’s a huge lack of communication and that needs to change.”
Fire crews say there wasn’t enough evidence to pinpoint what started the fire.
