D11 students get a taste of life in the workplace with “Passion Project”

Holmes Middle School eighth graders participated in their first “Passion Project” on Friday.

The event helps students experience what it’s like to be “what you want to be when you grow up.” It’s been two months in the making.

“I think it’s really cool because it helps us have an idea of what we want to be, and it gets us excited to go to work everyday and we’re doing stuff that we love,” said Sadie Enoch, student.

The students created poster board presentations with what they learned while researching their chosen professions, with the help of their teachers. They then presented their projects to sixth grade students in two separate sessions. Faculty members hope to ignite a passion in the students that will carry on later in life.

“The level of thought that they put into their presentation was very moving. And you know, it’s pretty awesome when students ask if they can come back and present this afternoon with the other half of the eighth grade, and sixth graders asking if they get to come back… You know it’s a win-win when everybody’s excited,” said Ramsey Ross, an English teacher for the school.

They say they plan to have more events similar to this during the holiday season.
