PARKER, Colo. – Body cam video has been released from the day a Parker police officer shot and killed a man who was accused of shooting a Douglas County detective.

The shootings happened on September 2, 2016.

The video shows Officer Ronnie Dorrell jumping out of a patrol car with an AR-15 rifle. Dorrell takes cover behind the open door of another vehicle and fires one shot, hitting Randall Rodick, 40, in the head. Rodick died at the scene.

Authorities responded to a report of a man with a gun, later identified by police as Rodick, near the area of Dixon Drive and Alpine Drive. They say Rodick got into a mobile home as deputies arrived and started shooting at deputies and Parker police.

Police say Rodick then drove the RV a short distance before crashing and once again opening fire.

Detective Dan Brite was shot during the incident. Brite was critically injured. He survived, but is paralyzed from the waist down.

The 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office ruled that the use of deadly force was justified.
