Local law enforcement joins battle against drug abuse

Law enforcement agencies across the state of Colorado joined forces to fight against drug abuse.

Thousands of people participated in the annual “Drug Take Back” program.

DEA officials expect to fill 20 trash bags with unused drugs.

In 2015, 1,000 pounds of pills were collected just in El Paso County.

Special Agent Timothy Scott says the program has helped the community immensely.

“We’re trying to get the prescription medications that people have stored in their house, that grandma has in her medicine cabinet, and get them off the street. By getting these opiods off the street, we’re helping to avoid addiction,” explained Scott.

The next “Drug Take Back” event is scheduled for April.
