Outside Trump rally: Long lines, protesters

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump had a rally Saturday at the Jet Center in Colorado Springs. Thousands of people were excited to just get inside and see Trump, but outside the lines were long. “We got here at two o’clock,” Lauren Martin said. The wait time didn’t stop Martin from saving her spot in line. “I just really want to see him in person,” Martin said. Across the street, protestors captured the attention of some people walking in. “Donald Trump’s message continues to be very problematic and hateful,” veteran Crystal Cravens said. Cravens, who organized the protest, said the group came to show diversity. “We have diversity and this is what America looks like, Cravens said. “This is what makes America great is people that have different ideas and different opinions on how this system can work, contributing to a dialogue that is not toxic and hateful and divisive.” Cravens said things between the groups have been more peaceful than usual because the protest was located across the street. “One of the reasons why is because we were put over here and we were not allowed to be in the face of the individuals,” Cravens said. But those heading into the rally said regardless of the protesters across the street, they were still excited about what was going to happen inside. “They seem peaceful, so it doesn’t matter,” Dacin Johnson said. Johnson came from Canon City to see Trump. “I just really want to understand why they would be against Trump. To me he’s the clear choice,” Johnson said. Both sides of the street, hope the other might see a different perspective. “Hopefully they can change their mind come election time and turn around to Trump,” Johnson said. “We are saying this man cannot be our president, because he is hateful,” Cravens said. “But what I’m also saying isI don’t hate you and you can come join us.” After the rally got out, protesters did start chanting while people were leaving the rally, people exiting started chanting back “Trump” and “USA.”
