New details released on Security-Widefield fugitive

New details have been released about the man arrested Tuesday following a Security-Widefield SWAT standoff.

According to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, the events leading up to Tyson Dunckel’s most recent arrest started on Monday.

That is when, they say, deputies saw Dunckel run a red light in a stolen Mitsubishi Montero.

The Deputy tried to stop the vehicle, but had to call off the chase when things got too dangerous.

That vehicle was found later the same morning, crashed into a large landscape rock on at the Arbor Point Apartments, located on the 2300 block of Hancock Expressway.

The next day, deputies got a tip that the same suspect might be inside a home in the 3100 block of Coral Ridge Drive.

Members of the county’s Crime Reduction Unit and a K-9 Unit responded to Coral Ridge Drive to observe the home while a search warrant was obtained for the residence.

Tyson Dunckel, who turned 20-years-old just a week ago, was wanted on ten active felony warrants, four misdemeanor warrants, and new charges stemming from the car chase on Monday.

After a standoff lasting several hours, Dunckel surrendered to deputies.

Dunckel has been booked into the Criminal Justice Center on the following charges:

First Degree Criminal Trespass, First Degree Aggravated Motor Vehicle Theft, Aggravated Motor Vehicle Theft (2 counts), Aggravated Robbery (2 counts), Felony Menacing (2 counts), Third Degree Burglary (2 Counts), Theft, Second Degree Assault, Illegal Discharge of a Firearm, Possession of a Weapon by a Previous Offender, Violation of Bail Bond Conditions (2 counts), Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, Identity Theft, Obstruction, Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor, Violation of a Restraining Order, Harassment (2 counts), Driving Under Restraint (2 counts), Failure to Provide Evidence of Insurance, and Number Plates Attached and When Lighted Lamps are Required.

Dunckel had previously been charged for an incident back in early June, when he allegedly shot up the home of a female love-interest on E Kiowa street.

According to court documents, Dunckel was observed on surveillance video, firing shots at the home of a woman who had turned down his romantic advances.

Ballistic evidence collected at the scene gave CSPD officers reason to believe that Dunckel had tried to shoot the woman in question.
