Man with long rap-sheet arrested after standoff

A man who is no stranger to local law enforcement was arrested after an hours-long standoff in Security-Widefield Tuesday evening.

The standoff played out on Coral Ridge Drive, just south of Big Johnson reservoir.

Police and El Paso County deputies were there to arrest 20-year-old Tyson Dunckel, who was wanted on at least 10 felony warrants, as well as several misdemeanors.

The entire neighborhood was cordoned off for about three hours.

Jacqueline Kirby, a spokesperson for the EPC Sheriff’s Office says that several residents were evacuated from surrounding homes as a precaution.

Dunckel finally surrendered to the officers after several hours of negotiations.

No one was hurt during the standoff.
Dunckel was the same fugitive who briefly caused a school lock-down Monday at Centennial Elementary in Colorado Springs.

According to Deputy Kirby, Dunckel fled from police on Monday after they tried to pull him over for driving erratically.

Police called off the chase in the interest of public safety.

Dunckel was also arrested back in June. He was tied to a series of incidents around the Security-Widefield area where he and several others were accused of shooting up private property, including mailboxes and construction equipment.

No word yet on the exact charges he faces for Tuesday’s standoff.
