Local Salvation Army expects full beds soon

With the temperatures getting cooler, a Colorado Springs nonprofit is preparing to open its doors to the homeless.

The Salvation Army says its focusing specifically on homeless families.

On any given night, they are able to provide shelter for more than 200 people. Right now, there is still space for more, but staff says that will change soon.

“The weather is changing and pretty soon it’s going to be below freezing at night and people will be at risk. So we do all we can to help people who are at that risk position, give them a helping hand,” said Major Richard Larson with the El Paso County Salvation Army.

The Salvation Army says it’s planning to collaborate with Springs Rescue Mission to provide even more beds for the homeless later this year.
