Fort Carson working to make transition to civilian easier

In the past 24 hours, nearly 500 soldiers have returned home to Fort Carson, but what happens after those homecoming ceremonies?

Soldiers are left to face an intimidating challenge: finding a new career here at home.

Leaving the military behind and adjusting back into civilian life is a difficult feat for many.

It’s something former marine Dakota Meyer knows about too well.

Meyer is the second youngest living medal of honor recipient and is using his transitioning experience to raise awareness to this problem.

“How do we help them transition? How do we help them get back in? A lot of them have never had a job interview. A lot of them went in when they were 17 like i did,” explained Meyer.

This week, Fort Carson is holding a transition summit.

Soldiers were learning about resume writing and interview skills on Tuesday.

George W. Bush will be speaking with the troops on Wednesday.
